"The effects of 500 years of chattel slavery are still shaping the realities of black people the world over. The principle of reparations should be uphelp, advocated and promoted through the establish-
ment of a fund to facilitiate material compensation to countries which were victimised, and by the pursuit of national and international policies to confront and eradicate the legacies of slavery..." (Rt. Hon. Owen S. Arthur)

On Sunday, March 25, the Prime Minister of Barbados, Rt. Hon. Owen S. Arthur delivered the Wilberforce Lecture at Hull University. The Prime Minister’s address was carried live on BBC television and recorded for CBC-TV, and formed part of an official programme of activities being put on in the U.K. to salute the landmark occasion. This commemorative event also included the official re-opening of the Wilberforce House Museum in Hull, prior to the anniversary lecture.
