Verene A. Shepherd is Professor of Social History at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus. She is President of the Association of Caribbean Historians, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Jamaica National Heitage Trust, Chair of the Jamaica National Bicentenary Committee and 2nd Vice President of the Jamaica Historical Society. She is a member of the Jamaica Reparation Movement.

Among her publications are the co-authored volumes, Trading Souls: Europe's Transatlantic Trade in Africans (Ian Randle, 2007) and Saving Souls: The Struggles to End the Transatlantic Trade in Africans (Ian Randle, 2007).
