Amb. Dudley Thompson is regarded as an intellectual and long standing Pan-Afrikanist, a friend and colleague of George Padmore, Kwame Nkrumah, C.L.R. James, Julius Nyerere and M.K.O. Abiola

He was awarded a medal by the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) as a "Legend Of Africa". Up to the time of appointment as Ambassador to Nigeria, Ghana, Namibia and other African countries. Amb. Dudley Thompson was President of the Rhodes Scholars Society of Jamaica.

In 1992, Amb. Dudley Thompson was empanelled as member of the Group of Eminent Persons (GEP), which is charged with implementing the Movement for Reparations to Africa and the Diaspora as a result of slavery and its effect. This Movement is under the auspices of the OAU. At present he is the Rapporteur of the GEP and an Honorary Chair of the International Reparations Commission of the GAC.
